about

This one has a really unique sonic fingerprint and a kind of uncanny valley hyper realism to it that I’m both proud of and mystified by. The writing is informed by the often heart wrenching dystopian stories of George Saunders, and although it takes place in a fantasy future universe, it is very much infused with the ubiquitous horrors and exquisite beauties of our present reality.

Producing this song was super fun. I used a vibrakill (a thing people use on tennis rackets, I guess?) to turn my guitar into a kind of percussion instrument and tuned it way down. I also played several varieties of baking tins, dried cow claws, a steel tongue drum, and an old floortom I have laying around. I did everything myself, besides mastering.

Thanks for listening, good people!

lyrics

New Air Substitute

I was combing the concrete riverbed
Trying to find shade from the government sun
Stumbling over the bones of the unicorns
Took a self induced coma in a rusted out fuselage

Hey hey I still believe in love
Hey hey I still believe in

Wiping snot from the nose of a lost child
collecting acid rain in a paper cup

Hey hey I still believe in love
Hey hey I still believe in
Hey hey I still believe in love
Hey hey I still believe in

Tripping over the guns of the overlords
potting flowers in their wasted skulls
Breathing deeply of the New Air Substitute
And keep moving toward the horizon

Hey hey I still believe
Hey hey I still believe
